Environmental Field Projects

ACADEMIC CREDIT

Students will receive up to 12 semester units
(18 quarter units) of upper division credit from California State University Monterey Bay Extended Education by participating in a Wildlands Studies project. While students usually encounter no difficulties in transferring credit to their home campus, applicants should check with their advisors prior to enrolling. Our staff will be happy to explain the program in further detail to the applicant’s advisor, if necessary.

Our extended Wildlands Studies field projects provide participants 12 semester units (18 quarter units)
of credit in three courses:

• ENVS 370A, Environmental Wildlands Studies (4 semester system units)
• ENVS 370B, Wildlands Ecological Evaluation (4 units)
• ENVS 370C, Wildlands Environment and Culture (4 units)

For our two week Wildlands Studies projects, participants receive 4 semester units (6 quarter units) of upper division credit in one course:  ENV STDS 370A, Environmental Wildlands Studies.

To apply, go to our Application page and download our Preliminary Application Form.

Letter grades (or pass/no pass on request) are based upon the breadth of our endeavors. Personal success will follow from active daily participation in the living and learning community, an open inquiring mind, hard work, and thoughtful attention to formal assignments. Participants will be evaluated according to the following criteria: 1) Assigned field exercises, and formal presentations at group seminars; 2) Written examinations; 3) Written term paper; 4) Daily entries in field journal; 5) Required readings during the program; and 6) Maintenance of standards for group safety and conduct.

Upper division academic credit is earned from California State University Monterey Bay (CSUMB) Extended Education for participation in each project, and the number of units earned is shown on each project’s description.

Students are responsible for determining in advance the transferability of units to their home institutions. CSUMB Extended Education’s unit of credit is based on the semester unit, however, units earned may be eligible for transfer credit to both semester and quarter system colleges
(4 semester units equal 6 quarter system units). Please check with your home institution to ensure credit transferability. California State University Monterey Bay Extended Education is only responsible for providing academic credit.
